Women artists of the Holocaust.
Today is Holocaust Memorial Day, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp. It’s a day dedicated to the memory of millions of people, including six million Jews, who were murdered under Nazi rule during the Second World War.
So many artists made life in the ghettos and concentration camps . Their art remains as documentary expression, a piece of an indescribable past, which was engraved in so many paintings, letters and music. Some of them lost, some of them lived to help us to remember and to celebrate the unimaginable sacrifice each of these people had to face.
Women artists during the Holocaust produced their paintings in different camps and at different times. They expressed their emotions, documented their daily life in the camps, maybe with a strong sense of hope that in spite what happened to them, they would always live through their art.
Click on the images below to learn more about some of these amazing women.
Let’s make sure we remember them.
