From London with Love: Music for Rio Grande do Sul
Join us for a special fundraising concert to support flood victims in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil!
We have all been deeply moved by the tragic floods that have devastated Rio Grande do Sul. Over half a million people have been affected, with many losing everything. Among the victims are fellow musicians and vital music organisations such as the Orquestra Sinfônica de Porto Alegre (OSPA) and the Projeto Prelúdio.
Many have lost their instruments, their places to teach or have music lessons, and thousands of concerts have been canceled, which has severely impacted their financial stability.
We are thrilled to invite musicians from various nationalities and music styles to come together for a fundraising concert to aid our colleagues in Rio Grande do Sul.
We look forward to welcoming you to the beautiful Sala Brasil at the Embassy of Brazil in London for this memorable evening.
Join us afterwards for a wine reception generously hosted by the Embassy.
Black and Classical: A Celebration of African American Women Composers
The evening will commence with an inspirational opening talk by soprano Gabriella Di Laccio, founder of Donne, Women in Music – a UK charitable foundation dedicated to promoting gender equality and diversity in the music industry. Gabriella will share her passions, the reasons behind creating Donne, her experiences breaking a Guinness World Record for equality and inclusion in music, and her vision for advancing gender equality in the music sector.
Following Gabriella’s talk, British concert pianist Beatrice Nicholas will perform a selection of pieces by African American women composers Florence Price, Margaret Bonds, and Betty Jackson King, who were pivotal in the Chicago Renaissance. This movement saw the fusion of Western art music with African American cultural elements such as negro spirituals, jazz, and African rhythms.
