SPARKHALL, Olivia

Name: SPARKHALL, Olivia (b. 1976)

Musical genre: Chamber Music, Choral Music, Vocal Music/Art Songs, Solo Instrument

Country of birth: UK

Country of location: UK

Notes:

Olivia Sparkhall is a multi award-winning composer and conductor, based in Hampshire, England. Olivia belongs to a long tradition of choral composer-conductors whose practice is informed by vocal pedagogy and an understanding of the capabilities of the voice. This research-informed work has been widely lauded, praising the juxtaposition of contemporary harmony and chant-like melodies, the ethereal writing, and the effectiveness of the compositions to move the listener.
In-demand as a composer and an arranger, Olivia works closely with commissioners to create bespoke works that both fulfil the brief, and delight choir and audience alike! Alongside this exciting composing career, Olivia delivers singing workshops for children and adults, lectures in voice pedagogy (specialising in vocal health), adjudicates music competitions, and is a singing tutor for classical and musical theatre performers.
Olivia’s compositions have been performed internationally, broadcast on BBC radio and television, and recorded by Chandos and Resonus Classics. Much of Olivia’s oeuvre is sacred and performed within the liturgy at cathedrals and churches worldwide, most commonly at Evensong and Eucharist services, as well as in concerts given by chapel and chamber choirs. Olivia is always thrilled to attend and support as many such performances as her schedule allows.
