SKEVINGTON, Alexandra
Alexandra is an English composer writing stand-alone classical pieces and music for short films. She’s also written electronic house, folk songs and a chiptune musical. A multi-instrumentalist with grade 8 distinctions in piano, violin and viola, after Oxford she held a senior exhibition scholarship for piano performance at the RCM. Not realising composing could be her career, Alexandra left music for several years before starting to share her compositions under pseudonyms. Gaining confidence through successful competition entries, she left her job to work as a composer. Alexandra’s piano music has been included on Trinity College London’s exam syllabus (2023, G6+G7), played on BBC Radio 3, used on BBC Sounds and features on several Spotify playlists. Works for string orchestra will be published by Wingert Jones in 2025. Her score for ‘The Other Side’ was selected for live performance at Film Score Fest, Minnesota (2023) and she scored ‘A First Move’, currently shortlisted for The Sci-Fi London 48 hour Film Challenge. In 2024, she helped to set a Guinness World Record for the Longest Acoustic Music Live-Streamed Concert in an event organised by The Donne Foundation where she played her own piano works alongside those of other contemporary female composers. Alexandra’s writing features elements of jazz, French impressionistic music and house with strong melodic elements. With a background in teaching, she is particularly interested in writing for education, emergent instruments and inclusive music groups alongside continuing to contribute music to film.
