Isabel McNeill Carley was an American composer, writer, editor and music educator. She studied music history at the University of Chicago and later attended the Orff Institute in Salzburg, where she became its first American graduate and studied composition privately with Carl Orff. In 1968, she co-founded the American Orff-Schulwerk Association and edited its journal, The Orff Echo, for fifteen years. Her publications include piano pieces, recorder music, choral works and instructional materials, particularly the series Recorder Improvisation and Technique.
