CALVACHE, Carolina

Carolina Calvache is a Colombian pianist, composer, arranger and educator whose music brings together jazz, classical composition and Latin American folk and popular traditions. Born in Cali, Colombia, she has developed an international career as a performer and creator, with a musical voice marked by lyricism, rhythmic vitality and a strong sense of cultural dialogue.
Her debut album Sotareño, released by Sunnyside Records in 2014, introduced her as a distinctive jazz composer and pianist, while her later album Vida Profunda expanded her language through chamber writing, poetry, song and collaboration with leading vocalists and instrumentalists. The album features artists such as Rubén Blades, Claudia Acuña, Haydee Milanés, Marta Gómez, Sara Serpa and Luba Mason, and reflects Calvache’s interest in combining intimate storytelling with sophisticated orchestration.

Calvache’s catalogue includes solo, chamber, jazz ensemble, big band and orchestral works. She is especially known for her brass repertoire, including Trombonsillo, which has become widely performed internationally and entered the required repertoire of the ABRSM. Other works and commissions include Encuentros, Caminos, Latin American Street Scenes, Comienzos and Hojarasca. Alongside her work as a composer and performer, Calvache is active as an educator, bringing her experience in jazz, composition and cross-cultural collaboration to students and musical communities in the United States, Latin America and beyond.
